will と be going to だけではない、未来をあらわす色々な表現

英語で未来をあらわす表現といえば、助動詞のwill、be going to + 動詞がすぐに思いつきますが、二つの違いや他の表現の仕方も学んでいきましょう。

原則として、willは書き言葉、be going to は話し言葉で好んで使われる。

証拠があったり、見聞きしたり、感じたことから判断して間もなく起こりそうなことを予測する場合、will ではなく、be going to が使われる。
She thinks she's going to faint.
予測が話し手の意見や、過去の出来事による場合、willを使う。
I imagine the stadium will be full for the match on Saturday.

話し手の意図や決定に基づく場合、be going to を使う。
Takefusa told me that he's going to move back to Spain.
ただし形式的に、すでに決まっている計画を伝える場合はwillが使われる。
The meeting will begin at 10 am.  Coffee will be available from 9:30 onwards.

現在進行形で未来をあらわす
すでに決まっている計画や行動（上述のbe going toと同じ）
Are you seeing Mika this week?
Tom is making a speech at theparty next month.

現在形で未来をあらわす
時刻表やプログラムなど公式に決定されている事項
Their plane arrives at 2 o'clock in the morning.
The next meeing of the committee is on November 5th.

be to + 動詞で未来をあらわす
慣習や公式の取り決めや手配により決定している未来、ニュース記事など
The medicine is to be taken after meals.
The European Parliament is to introduce a new law on safety at work.
